November Challenge - Day Nineteen

So it came. The dreaded jury duty summons. Every day for the last month or two, I would get the feeling of dread when it came time to check the mail. I got my pre-jury duty questionnaire a couple months ago and I knew it was just a matter of time before it was my turn again. This is only the second time I've been saddled with jury duty. The first time was the best experience. The night before it started, I was supposed to call for instructions. I did and was told not to report, but to call the next day. Which I did and was told not to report. The third day I was excused. I'm hoping and praying something similar is going to happen. I'm supposed to start on December 1. I'm hoping that between my jury number (156) and the fact that it's the week after Thanksgiving that not much will be happening. The more I hope, though, the more likely I'm going to end up on a jury. Not that it's a terrible thing, but I really hate disruptions of any kind. I'm kind of freaking out, on a very small scale, about it because I'm off of work the entire week beforehand. I don't like the idea of missing more work. I'm still conditioned from all my years in retail that time off is forbidden for any reason.

And I think Ken and I just had a little spat over my jury duty. When he got home, we were talking about it and I told him that if I have to serve, the court won't pay me. He fixated on that statement and couldn't get past it and so whatever else I said just started to piss him off. I told him I don't get paid for it because I work for the state and I'll still get my normal pay. But he decided that I meant I don't get jury pay, nor do I get work pay. So he's in a pissy mood right now and I'm upstairs. Hopefully he's straightened himself out by now.

Keep your fingers crossed that I won't have to serve on a jury. I know it's my civic duty, but I'm just not looking forward to it.

hopefully you will be lucky enought not to have to serve. just tell them you think everyone is guilty or you know the person.

I grew up in a very small town and have the same given name as my father, who worked on the P.D. over 20 years and the sheriff's office 10 years. My brother worked part time for the sheriff too. Bro and I both got called for jury duty at the same time.

Every single attorney who heard my name said simply, "dismissed" or something like it. I even went to the court clerk and said, "Really now. No one is going to pick us. Can't you just let us go?" and she wouldn't do it.

I know I'm jinxing myself by saying this, but I've never been called for jury duty.
