2018.021 Batman And The Outsiders Vol 2

This continues to be a fun read for me.  Sure, Mike Barr isn't my favorite writer.  He can be very hokey at times (a lot of the time), but he does tell a fun story.  This era of BATO was probably my favorite.  The characters were still new, Barr was trying to figure out what works with them and what doesn't.  We delve further into the new characters backstories.  It's all good stuff.  And if that's not enough, Jim Aparo hits home run after home run with his art.  I remember reading years ago that the thing he detested most was drawing team books.  You'd never know it looking at his art here.  It's just perfect.  And we get a look of the future of BATO with Alan Davis jumping in to draw some stuff.

If you enjoy some of the cheesier aspects of the 80s, you'll love the pants off this book.

117 Supergirl Vol 3: Ghosts Of Krypton

I love Supergirl.  Well, I love Supergirl when she's done right.  This volume, not my favorite.  I wasn't reading the series regularly when these stories were published.  I'm not sure why, but I'm kind of happy I wasn't reading it.  I really didn't enjoy this book.  An awful lot of it is spent on a story where Supergirl tries to find a cure to save a dying boy she "accidentally" promised would be okay.  I do love that Resurrection Man was featured prominently in the story, but even that wasn't enough to save it for me.  Kara spends an awful lot of time brooding about Krypton, too.

I loved the stuff Kelley Puckett did with Batgirl, but not so much with Supergirl.  It just didn't work for me.

028 Future Quest Vol 1

This is a book I was really looking forward to.  Of all the Hanna-Barbera books DC announced, it was the only one that looked the slightest bit interesting.  The rest, to be honest, looked horrible to me.  Anyway, the premise of this book is to gather up most, if not all, of the Hanna-Barbera "action heroes" into one giant crossover story.  This volume represents the first half of the crossover.  If I had to use one word to describe it, it would be disappointing.  Disappointing because it's kind of a convoluted mess.  In order to pull all these characters in to one story, it's gotten to be a giant mess.  There's a central story that most of the characters have something to do in, but there are other side stories using other characters that are trying to tie into the main story and all it does is take away from it.  It's a good idea poorly executed.  I wish there would be less of this side stuff and more focus on the main story.  And that anything that doesn't fit into the main story gets jettisoned.

This book also hit a snag early on with issue three being a fill in issue.  That killed the slowly building momentum.

I plan on finishing the story in the next volume and hope that it gets more focused.  Because it's a great concept and nice to look at, but just a jumbled mess.  Not something I normally would expect from Jeff Parker.
