Another Friday Night

It's another Friday night and I should be doing something more productive than playing on the computer.  Tonight and tomorrow are it as far doing house stuff, for the most part.  The house is officially on the market right now and our first open house is on Sunday.  I'm doing much better than I thought I would be doing at this point.  Sure, I was kind of freaked out on Wednesday as we finalized the paperwork with the real estate agent, but I've been okay since.  Which is surprising because this is all new, unknown territory for me and I HATE THE UNKNOWN.  I'm scared to death of it.

Anyway, tonight and tomorrow we need to do all the last minute stuff.  The rest of the house needs a good cleaning.  The front porch has to be reorganized from top to bottom.  Almost every room needs a little touch up paint here and there.  Funny.  As I'm typing this, Ken just walked in and handed me a two page list of things we need to do tomorrow.  I guess there's more than I was thinking.

I say that I'm taking things much better than I expected, but I've noticed things I've been doing that I'm sure are a direct result of some underlying stress.  I've been eating crap like it's been going out of style.  Way more than I usually do.  I'm fearing for my weigh in on Sunday this week.  I've been doing so good for the longest stretch.  I'd hate to see me take a step or two back.

On Sunday, our real estate agent wants us to vacate the place during the open house (which is a given), but he also wants us to take the cats with us.  This is going to be fun.  Not.  We're going to be out of the house with them for four hours.  This wouldn't be so bad except Lucy is a crier.  She will cry from the second she goes into the carrier to the second she gets out of it.  Ollie barely meows at all, but when Lucy cries incessantly, it makes him start to mew, too.  I don't know how much I'm going to be able to take.  I'm hoping Lucy tires herself out after a little while.  We're going to take the cats on a road trip.  We'll see how that pans out.

I had a lot more to say about the week that's passed, but for the life of me, I can't seem to recall any of what else has been going on.  Pretty typical for me, I guess.  Especially lately.

March

I can feel the winter starting to come to an end.  Today was evidence of that.  I'm hoping it was less of a tease and more of the way things are going to go.  When I left work tonight, it was 40 degrees.  Now I know that number will mean different things to different people.  To this person, this person or this person, 40 degrees isn't pretty.  But to this person, this person and this person, 40 degrees is a relief.  This winter has been cold and having a day in the 40s is a nice treat.  So nice, in fact, that I used it as an excuse to walk home from work.  I haven't done that since last fall.  Not being able to get outside and walk has really been taking a toll on me.  I try to keep up with my walking when I can, but it's not often enough.  This time of year it's limited to the crack of dawn on Sunday at the mall.  I try to get there before too many of the blue hairs get there.  I know we're still going to have some shitty weather between now and spring, but it's like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Tracey

Tracey Thorn's new solo album is being released in the US on my birthday this year.  I'm soooo excited.  2010 is shaping up to be the best year for music in a while.

You can download one of Tracey's new songs at the following link.

Full

Another weekend is drawing to a close and it was another jam-packed weekend.  Everything I mentioned in my Friday night post came to pass.  And then some.  My house is really starting to look amazing.  It's a shame that selling the place is what forced us to finish up everything we lost steam on five or six years ago.  Everything on the second floor is so close to being 100%.  A few more pieces of art still need to be hung.  There are a couple of spare lamps in Ken's new office that need homes.  And a box of stuff going to Goodwill that needs to be brought downstairs.  But for the most part, the second floor of my house needs a deep cleaning.  There's still so much dust covering things.  If there was time this weekend, I would have started that project.

The first floor is nearly as put together.  Sean and crew came this morning to pick up the furniture and that freed up a tremendous amount of space on the front porch and the living room.  Ken managed to clean up a big percentage of the tools, etc that have been living in the dining room.  And he began sorting all the tools, etc we have to get rid of the excess.  He's always had his own tools.  Then his dad died and he inherited all of those.  And then his step-mother's neighbor moved and she brought over more tools.  So he's sorting, keeping everything that he needs and then the rest are going to Habitat For Humanity.

We filled up the storage unit with a lot of my shit this weekend.  It's amazing how many boxes of comics and toys and cds I pulled from my office.  Nearly 40 boxes.  They're all in storage right now and it feels good not to have the boxes piled in the corner of Ken's office.

We found time to take in an open house this afternoon after lunch.  Loved the house, hated the location.  *sigh*

All in all, I'm EXHAUSTED!  I'm looking forward to going in to work tomorrow to escape the house for a little while.  This week I need to find time to start the cleaning process.  My house looks like Oscar Madison lives in it.  And I can't have that.

I'm climbing into bed, putting Amazing Race on and then crashing.  Hard.

Tracks

I love music.  I love statistics.  I love charts.  I love all that crap.  That's one of the reasons I love the website last.fm.  When I sync my iPod, I have a widget thingie that sends what I listened to to my profile on last.fm and it tracks what I listen to.  I love looking at the charts it generates.  I'm such a nerd.

Anyway, there are a whole bunch of widgets you can post on your last.fm page.  I found this one recently and I love it.  It tells you what your 5,000th, 10,000th, 15,000th, etc, etc song was and when you played it.  I'm missing the first handful of my songs because of a glitch in the widget that the developers are supposedly working on fixing.  But no big whoop.  I just hit song #125,000 and here's my current list.
