Fingering Gram

Gram and Karen are en route back to New Hampshire. It was a good weekend, but I'm glad to have nothing to do again. I'm such a horrible person. Ha.

They arrived on Friday night around 10 pm. When they got to the hotel Karen called and we popped in for a quick visit. I was exhausted, more so than usual, so I was quite happy the visit was a short one. They picked a hotel rather than staying here because our house isn't even close to being handicapped accessible. Gram has a terrible time getting around and moving. So the hotel worked out well for them. After leaving the hotel, Ken ran to the supermarket to pick up food for breakfast.

Saturday morning, Karen called and Ken went to pick them up at the hotel to bring them back here. He cooked us all breakfast and then we headed out. Gram and Karen wanted to go to the casino, so that's what we did. I played the slots until I lost my $12 (my limit is usually $20, but I only had $12 on me) and then watched Karen and Gram for a while. We mostly stuck to the 1 cent machines (makes the money last longer....) and Gram was having great luck on the machine she found. She was sitting next to a man who was having even better luck than she was. He won about $100. Keep in mind this was a penny machine. Gram ended up winning about $20 or so. It seemed like every time the man next to her pointed at her machine, she would win something. When telling Ken about this, she said, "I do very well every time this nice man fingers me." It took everything Ken had (and then some) to keep a straight face. We decided that at 1 o'clock we would have lunch. When the time hit, Ken got Gram back in her wheelchair, but he wanted to try her machine. Since she wasn't happy about going, he waited for us to wheel her out of sight and he sat at her machine. On his first pull, he hit for $128.00. He pulled again and then realized he wasn't going to win anymore and immediately cashed out. He knew he couldn't tell his grandmother what he did because she'd be furious.

After lunch we headed home. They dropped me off at the house and then went to take the Aqua Duck tour of Albany. It's on a giant bus that drives around town and then drives right into the river and continues the tour that way.

When they were done there, they picked me up and we went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. The wait was only about 15 minutes, which is amazing for a Saturday night. Ken was hot for some guy also waiting and did the most embarrassing thing ever. He turned to him and asked if he was a model. The guy turned red and said no. Then Ken told him he should be. You can't take him anywhere.

This morning when we went to the hotel to pick them up, someone stopped Ken in the lobby when they saw his shirt. It's some World of Warcraft thingie and the guy who stopped him, I swear, almost creamed his pants. He made Ken stand there so he could take his picture. I found it hysterical.

Today we went shopping before they had to get on the road. It was so nice having them here. Karen, Ken's cousin, was great. I'd never met her before. She was fantastic. Gram was sweet as ever. What amazed me about Gram is that even though she's incredibly immobile, she had a great attitude and a big sense of humor about it. Not crotchety like a lot of old people are. The weekend was so much better than I thought it was going to be.

Go to 12205.blogspot.com to see some pictures of this weekend. You'll see the guy who fingered Gram!! Plus, the pictures of me amazed me. I really am looking a hell of a lot thinner.
